Lucca Allen made the journey north of the border this past weekend – to the Knockhill Circuit in Scotland – and was rewarded with his first British Sportbike championship points of the season aboard his MPR Racing Suzuki.
Strong throughout the weekend – in both wet and dry conditions – Lucca rode well in qualifying to secure a competitive grid slot and with it the chance to show his speed when the lights went out for both races around the shortest track on the calendar.
Saturday’s opening encounter saw the #77 immediately gain places. Latching onto the pack fighting for the final point he narrowly missed out at the flag, crossing the line sixteenth.
Sunday was a different story. An encouraging warm up session helped build the pre-race confidence and from lights out to the flag Lucca fought hard. Part of a multi-rider group he secured P14 on the penultimate lap after a perfectly executed overtake gave him and the team their best result of the season to date – and two valuable championship points.
Lucca now heads optimistically to the next round of the series at Snetterton in Norfolk in a fortnight before heading to the UK Round of the FIM Superbike World Championship with his MPR Racing squad where they will support the Two Wheels for Life charity in the Fan Zone at Donington Park. He will also take part in the annual charity auction at the Paddock Show on Saturday night.
Lucca Allen:
“I was only 0.1s from going through to Q2 which was positive, but I messed up my fast lap. Race one on Saturday was pretty good to be fair. I made up several positions on lap one and spent the whole race battling for the top fifteen which was a nice step in the right direction. The bike felt much better for race two. I made another good start and had a race long battle which was fun. I was able to lead the group I was in, but it was a bit frustrating that we lost the group ahead due to some questionable riding from some of those around me. Nevertheless, that’s racing and I can see the potential that we now have. The team have done such a great job to get us to this point where we are now scoring points, and I cannot wait for Snetterton. Thank you to everyone who is supporting me.”
