Lucca Allen was back at the sharp end in the latest round of the British GP2 championship at Brands Hatch this past weekend securing a hard fought second place in Saturday’s opening encounter before taking a tumble on Sunday whilst once again fighting for a top three position.

The weekend started steadily for Lucca and despite an engine issue he was able to secure his place on the grid for the two races which were held on the GP circuit layout at Brands Hatch – one of the most iconic circuits in the UK.

Crossing the line half a second ahead of his nearest rival on Saturday, Lucca consolidated third in the overall points standings after once again showing grit and determination throughout the ten-lap encounter.

Sunday’s race was also going to plan until a crash a couple of laps from the flag put the FR89 Racing Kalex rider out of contention.

Despite the DNF Lucca remains P3 in the British GP2 Championship standings, thirty-six points clear of the fourth classified rider.

Lucca Allen:

“I finished second in race one. I posted a new PB lap for Brands Hatch and was able to claw back an almost two second deficit to put myself in contention for another podium. I was able to finish second which is our best result of the year. The result also moved me up on the grid for Sunday. I dropped my times in race two and was closer to the lead GP2 riders than I had been all year. By lap nine my arm was tight, but I kept pushing. I lost a position and unfortunately went down after the rider ahead braked sooner than I expected. It’s a shame to end the weekend on the floor but our pace has shown we can run at the front, and I am confident and optimistic for the next round.”
