Lucca Allen had a challenging time at the penultimate round of the 2024 British GP2 Championship at Donington Park.
A crash early in the weekend put him on the back foot before a blown engine ruled him out of the opening race.
Missing morning warm further hindered what could have been but Lucca went into the second race keen to make a result after the previous event at Oulton Park saw him hospitalised.
Sunday saw the #11 bring it home in fourth position securing P4 in the overall standings. With one round remaining at Brands Hatch and mathematically unable to change his final season position, Lucca is focusing on 2025 where an announcement on his plans will be made shortly.
Lucca Allen:
“The weekend was frustrating at times, but I am taking the positives of the fact that I was able to ride faster than last year at times and I got my confidence back after the crash last time out at Oulton. FP2 was the first time I had ridden with new forks, and I spent the session making laps and collecting data. I felt good and went into qualifying positive. In qualifying I felt I had more pace than we showed but unfortunately, I crashed on what was going to be a quick lap. Race one felt strange from lap three onwards. I just felt like I had no power. The bike let go and we had to retire. The team worked hard to change the engine but there was a noise that the team weren’t happy with, so they had to make more changes, and we missed morning warm-up. We made the grid for race two but again we had an issue – this time with the brakes. I decided to keep going and bring the bike home for a finish as after the last few races this was important. There’s one race left, at Brands Hatch next week and I am looking to end the year with a decent result and then focus on 2025 which should be really fun if everything comes together!”
