Lucca Allen held on to third overall in the British GP2 Championship after bouncing back from a race one crash to finish third on Sunday, his sixth podium finish of the season.

Returning to the BSB paddock after visiting the MotoAmerica championship in Mid-Ohio a week ago, Lucca started the annual visit to Cadwell Park strongly despite a small spill at the end of FP1.

A solid qualifying ensured that the #11 FR89 Team rider was once again in contention for a double podium finish and after an impressive start to race one Lucca was soon running second. However, a defensive line into Mansfield – the downhill left hander – on the final lap saw him lose the front, crashing out of contention, thankfully without serious injury.

Sunday dawned with Lucca keen to make amends and despite being sore and in some discomfort from the prior day spill, he was able to complete the feature race, adding another third-place finish to his 2024 tally, consolidating P3 overall in the process.

With a couple of weeks to fully recover, Lucca is focused on maximising his results in the final six races of the year, his aim to secure a top three finish in the British championship for the second consecutive season.

Lucca Allen:

“It was great to be back at Cadwell Park. It’s a track I really enjoy riding at and one that I have had decent results at in the past. FP1 was wet and I had a good feeling. I had a small high side at the end of the session but the team but the bike back together and I was ready for FP2. I struggled a bit in FP2. I was on intermediate tyres and the bike also had some recurring fuel mapping issues but we at least got some more laps under our belt. I qualified well and had a decent race one, making up several places on lap one. I was running second in the GP2 category but on the last lap I went a bit too defensive and lost the front. I was a bit sore going into race two after the crashes I’d had earlier in the weekend. I got to lap twelve and was just really struggling. I should have pulled in, but I knew that my nearest rival in the championship was ahead of me, and I needed the points. I kept going and finished third but after the race I was not in the best shape. I went to the medical centre, and they did some scans, and the good thing is I will be good to go for the final three rounds at Oulton, Donington and Brands. Thanks to everyone who is supporting me. See you at the next one!”
