Lucca Allen was back on track in the latest round of the 2024 British GP2 Championship at Knockhill on Saturday, the #11 FR89 Racing rider bouncing back from a heavy fall on Friday to finish just off the podium in Saturday’s opening encounter.
The team worked well to rebuild the bike and Lucca went into race one confident of a good result. A race long battle allowed Lucca to display his talents and whilst the podium eluded him P4 secured solid points for the championship.
Rain on Sunday did not faze Lucca, who by his own admission enjoys riding in the rain and who has always excelled in wet conditions. However, a technical issue on his first flying lap forced him to retire.
Third overall in the GP2 championship, despite the DNF on Sunday, Lucca heads to Snetterton for the next round of the series in a couple of weeks keen to make amends.

“I crashed early in the first session. It was a big one the bike was wrecked, and I was pretty sore. The team did a fantastic job to rebuild it and I was able to get back out for FP2. I was only 0.1s from the top three in the GP2 so given the circumstances I was happy. I didn’t make the best of starts and got a bit flustered and then I just struggled to be honest. We were able to salvage solid points for the championship with fourth and so I just said to myself to regroup and go again on Sunday. Race two was wet and I was more than confident about what we could do but unfortunately, we had a tech issue on my first flying lap. Not ideal but it is what is. I want to thank the team for their efforts and everyone that supports me. See you all at Snetterton in a few weeks.”
